2023 Recap

My 2023 Recap

While you wait for the photos on this page to load, maybe you can give me a moment to get a little sentimental. Usually when a year ends, everyone comments on how fast the year flew by. For me that changed once I started looking through my 2023 photos.

I started to reflect on all the new people I had to the chance to meet and all the new places I got to experience. I was even invited to Goat Meat Night. That’s a whole other story…

Some of the photos below might not be perfectly edited or they might lack something. But to me, each of these photos was another person’s story that I had a small part in. That’s just crazy!

Some Highlights!

I went Oregon, Iceland, and Costa Rica, all for photos!

My friends got married!

I hosted 4 styled shoots, and had some amazing photographers join in 🙂

I rank first in Manitoba for “Winnipeg Photographer” on Google.

And lastly, each time I looked down at my camera and knew I just took a banger!

The End, but not really…

If your photo is on this page, first of all THANK YOU! Second, these are more than just photos to me. I really get the biggest smile on my face looking through these. If you don’t see yourself up here, I really tried to go through all my shoots but there were a lot!

I’m thankful people continue to trust me with my God-given abilities. It’s because of you guys that I get to live out my crazy little dream.

Dear 2024

I hope you give me some stories!

The Leaf Couple Photos | Winnipeg Photographer

The Leaf Building opened up not that long ago and every photographer and their dog rushed to go take photos there. It’s a pretty big deal when Winnipeg gets a new indoor attraction. Another thing to do in winter. So I thought I’d share some of The Leaf Couple Photos from the Assiniboine Park.

Obviously I had the best time taking photos there. Greenhouses with big windows (like the Leaf) let in so much beautiful light and with so much room it’s the perfect place. I’ll make sure to include plenty photos below.

The leaf Winnipeg

Things to know before visiting The Leaf

This couple be it’s own blog post in it’s self. I’ll try to keep it short! The first thing you got to know is what to wear. To the common Manitoban it will feel hot in there. Definitely not jacket weather and a little too hot for sweaters.

The second thing you should probably know about is that if you want to visit on a weekend I’d probably pick up your ticket before hand. This might be a different case in Summer but definitely in Winter grab your ticket online.

Third, the best time I’ve found in winter to take photos at the leaf is between 3pm and 4pm. The sunsets letting in a ton of golden light especially at the top of the building. This would be later in the evening if it were summer.

If you’re planning on having your wedding photos taken at the leaf I would call ahead of time and ask what sort of things you/they will need to do. I don’t yet have experience doing wedding photos there but I will soon!

If you have any other questions about the leaf feel free to ask me!

Taylor & Vivi

I found the sweetest couple ever, aren’t they models!?! I had the best time being able to capture these photos. Okay enough talking from me. Here’s the photos!

The Leaf Couple Photos

I hope you love these photos as much as I do! If you’re thinking about taking photos at the leaf I would say do it! If you want your photos taken at the leaf then I’m in!

One last thing. Please be respectful of the space. If you’re there just for fun or there to take photos it’s important to do your best to not wreck the experience for anyone else and not to destroy any plants. Thanks 🙂

Fort Garry Hotel Winnipeg Wedding

Fort Garry Hotel Winnipeg Wedding

Ryan and Amna were such an amazing couple to work with. They were so laid back and easy going. Ryan and Amna had a beautiful, traditional Indian wedding in Winnipeg at the Fort Garry Hotel Winnipeg Wedding. Their wedding day was full of emotion, elegance and fun!

If you’re searching for a beautiful wedding venue in Winnipeg, the Fort Garry Hotel is an amazing reception location. This historic hotel is luxurious and romantic. Ryan and Amna’s reception absolutely blew me away. A lot of thought and detail went into planning their wedding day.

The first look between Ryan and Amna was the cutest! Ryan’s reaction to Amna was priceless. You could feel the joy and emotion between them! I love when couples choose to do a first look. Each one is always a little different and unique to the couple’s personality.

Ryan and Amna were such a fun, laid back couple. They endured over 2 hours of shooting, which is amazing on a long wedding day. Their photos couldn’t have turned out more beautifully! Ryan and Amna looked absolutely stunning.

I loved being able to capture a traditional Indian wedding in Winnipeg! It was a lot of fun to experience and capture such a rich culture. The whole atmosphere was regal and joyful! Ryan and Amna’s guests were so happy to celebrate their marriage.

Ryan and Amna – I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to be a part of such a special day for you both. I had the best time working with you! I hope you love these photos as much as I do. Wishing you both years of happiness ahead of you. Congratulations, you two!!

This wedding was nothing short of perfect! I know I say this a lot but this has got to be one of my favourites. The leaves were changing colours and the temperature wasn’t too hot or too cold. I woke up with that distinct feeling that I’m about to shoot some bangers! Here’s some Assiniboine Park Wedding Pictures!

Morning

After waking up the morning of the wedding I checked the weather one last time before leaving and I saw 90% chance of rain the WHOLE day. No one wants to see that especially for their outdoor wedding. I bought some extra umbrellas and headed to the brides for getting ready. The morning was really chill and we all had lots of time which meant lots of time for dress photos and getting ready photos.

After make up was done and we headed outside for a champagne pop and some outside photos! These turned out soooo good. Because of the chance of rain there was lots of clouds which gave the perfect lighting.

First Look

After everyone was dressed we headed to Assiniboine Park for the First Look. With some quick coordination so the bride and groom don’t see each other too soon we were all set up. As a photographer it’s important I just act as a fly on the wall. Just look how cute this was!

Couple Photos

After all the excitement from the first look we moved into couple photos! These two were so amazing and I got to say it was a blast shooting these photos. About half way through these photos we had the first couple drops of rain… I grabbed the umbrellas I brought and we took some photos with those because why not!  Right after those photos we moved directly into  the bridal party photos. Check them out!

Ceremony

We took a little break from the photos to prep for the Ceremony. If you haven’t seen it, Leo Mol Sculpture Garden has the prettiest ceremony set up! At this point we had next to no rain and the clouds were clearing up so they decided to go with the outdoor venue!

Reception

For the reception we went into the Qualico Family Centre. Which was set up beautifully! We managed to go the whole wedding day without rain so the stress was finally over. The reception was very chill and started with dinner provided by the Venue and we then moved to speeches and then the dance.

2021 Photography Recap

The Year My Life Changed

2021 was an interesting year to say the least… but for me it was especially interesting. You probably aren’t here to listen to me get sentimental about my summer so I’ll spare you the time. But I will say that through everything God had a plan for me.

– Weddings

This is where I was really blown away. The year 2020 was my first year shooting weddings and I shot 4 that year. In 2021, I was hoping for 7 which was a stretch, but I wanted to really push myself. At the time, I was working full time at a trucking company and working on photography in the evening. Here’s the crazy part. I ended up shooting 18 weddings this year!

I’m so so blessed to be able to turn my hobby into a job. I won’t get into how I was able to use the pandemic to market my business. I’ll just say it’s been a blessing and a curse.

I was able to quit my job and work for myself full time. This came with its challenges, you see by nature I’m a procrastinator and learning to work from home was one of my biggest challenges.

Little Recap

This year I was able to meet so many people and go so many places. But like I said, let’s not get sentimental. Maybe this will help put it into perspective. I took 60,983 photos this summer!! Of some of the most amazing people from Manitoba, I might add. That’s a lot! And yes I did go through each of those photos and picked out the ones to edit. There’s a couple shoots that stick out specifically. If I could, I would share all the photos I’ve taken, but I simply can’t, so here’s a couple 🙂

Zane & Taylor

The day from start to finish was as close to a perfect day for a photographer as you can get! Beautiful weather, bottomless poutine, and of course an amazing couple. These photos will forever be some of my favourite. Want to see more photos? Check out this blog post.

This wedding had a bumpy start with some car troubles on the way to the wedding and then needing to find a ride. However the rest of the wedding was nothing short of stunning. Check out some of these!

I’m going to start sounding like a broken record but this engagement session was beautiful. I always love when the couple starts by saying they are bad at taking photos. Gives me a chance to prove them wrong.  This session we went around Birds Hill during golden hour getting some cute pics.

Mashal

Shout out to this couple for agreeing to drive to Steep Rock for their engagement session! And boy oh boy was it worth it. Spent some time during sunset taking some photos on the cliffs. Check them out!

Bobby

This has got to be one of my favourite winter shoots! Like come on! There was literally a hallmark movie being filmed down the street. These two brought the vibes too. Such a great time!

Justin & Carmen

Winter weddings can be so beautiful. This couple had their wedding plans change again and again but were able to have their wedding at the Centennial Concert Hall. This winter day ended up only being -2. Had a great time shooting in the Exchange with this amazing couple.

Amanda & Pavel

Yes, the perfect fall wedding does exist and I got to take photos for it!!! These are two of the nicest people I’ve met and also models. I couldn’t be more happy with how the photos came out!

It was an amazing experience being able to be a part of this wedding. I knew the groom from church, so it made it extra special. This was one of my first 10 person weddings and I got to say, there’s something special about them.

We will end off with another amazing engagement session. This one took me to Stoney Mountain Quarry. These two braved the cold fall day for these photos so props to them! We had fun exploring the area and getting some fun photos!

New Things to Come

I really wish I could have shared more sessions with you guys. But seeing as 2022 is coming up I figure sooner is better than later. In 2022 I have a lot of big things coming and I can’t wait for all the new adventures I’ll have. If you want to continue to follow what I’m up to you can follow my Instagram.

First of all, thank you to all of you that trusted me with your wedding photos and couple photos. And second of all, thank you to all of you that have supported me along the way!

Happy New Year!

Wedding at the Gables Wedding Barn

My wedding at the Gables Wedding Barn was amazing! Not only was the costumer service top notch but the place is just simply stunning.

If you’re currently searching for a Wedding venue or looking for more wedding photos I’ve shot, than you came to the right place! I’ll also be sharing more of an inside look at what a wedding looked like at the Gables wedding barn.

You can check out the Gables Wedding Barn website Here.

Zane + Taylor

We started the morning with some typical Detail Shots. These normally consist of some photos of the building, rings, bouquet, and dress photos. Both me and the Videographer (Everett Derksen) found a great spot to put down the ring and shoes for photos.

We then got ready to do some fun outdoors shots with the bride and brides maids before they got into their dresses. I love these shots so much because It’s the perfect way to destress a little and have fun with your friends.

We planned to do the champagne pop outside in a bit of shade.

Getting Ready

The Gables Wedding Barn has this amazing room in the back for the bride to get ready. Most of the morning it was used for the family to sit around and also for hair and make up. The room also has two barn doors to it. Which are probably my favourite. You’ll see why in the photos below 😉

We then had the first look between the bride and her father as well as with the bridesmaids.

Ceremony

The tears were real during this ceremony! We were so fortunate to have the perfect weather for an outdoor ceremony! A little windy but still nice.

The Gables Wedding Barn has this amazing field in the background behind the ceremony. The whole thing was just amazing. We got to experience a big Manitoban sky in the background which was just the icing on the cake.

Bridal Party & Couple Photos

After cocktail hour we went straight into some family photos and then bridal party photos. The Gables Wedding Barn has this large open green area that was perfect for groups and couple shots. One thing that made this area so nice is that the sun in the afternoon and evening was back lighting this area. Which is my favourite kind of lighting!

Reception

After the excitement of the couple photos we went inside for the reception. This is where the Gables Wedding Barn really shines. They have an amazing indoor set up and it was perfect for all the guests. Supper was provided by Extreme Fries, they had bottomless poutine. Everyones dream right?!?!

The evening was fill with speeches, dessert, and some other fun. Afterwards we head outside for some dances!

Winnipeg Tent Rentals

As a Winnipeg Wedding Photographer…

I’ve been around weddings enough to know where to get what. So I’m about to hook you up with the best places to get tent rentals in Winnipeg. These could easily be for your Winnipeg wedding or any other event! So instead of ranting on and on about this lets get straight into the information. (I know you’re here for the info)

Winnipeg Tent Rentals

#1 Springfield Tent Rentals

 Website

Springfield is a perfect choice if you’re wanting to rent a tent in the months of May-August. They have mini lights to light up your reception and a dance floor to throw down on. They serve the RM of Springfield and some of the surrounding areas. Make sure to check them out!

http://www.springfieldtentrentals.com/

#2 Weatherwise Tent Rentals

 Website

They got you covered! They have been operating since 1996. Weatherwise tents are designed to be elegant and attractive. They are made with premium white materials. But don’t take my word for it! Go check them out!

#3 C&T Event Rentals

 Website

By far my favorite tent rental company! But I may be bias, because I really enjoy the white clean vibe they got going on. Especially with their website, go check it out! It’s pretty nice. They don’t only have tents but also other wedding rental equipment such as chairs, tables and décor.

Consider this for your Winnipeg Wedding

Here’s some extra tips and things to remember when renting a tent.

  • Consider your location
  • Power/Water/Lighting
  • Weather
  • Location
  • Accessibility

Now all that’s left to do is grab your wedding tent! If you have anymore requests and questions I would be happy to help!

Wedding Venues In Winnipeg

As a Winnipeg wedding photographer, it’s valid to say that I’ve done my fair share of investigating not only for amazing places to take photos, but amazing places to have the wedding as whole! So, I thought I’d share what I’ve learned, to potentially save you a few steps in your planning! Here are my top 5 wedding venues in Winnipeg.

  1. Hawthorn Estates

Let’s start with a popular one, Hawthorn Estates. There’s definitely a reason for its popularity… it’s absolutely breathtaking! It has the perfect balance between the rustic style and elegance. Hawthorn Estates is located just 15 minutes away from Selkirk, it’s not too far, but far enough away to be quite private! Their venue can hold up to 150 guests! On its property, it has a modern barn for an indoor event or a five acre lot filled with so many opportunities for a gorgeous outdoor wedding. A few spots such as the “marriage hill” and “the solarium” have such great and romantic set up potential. It has surrounding farmland and a lot of private grounds for those intimate couple photos! (My favourite part). Not only does this venue have beautiful reception and ceremony set ups, but they have a Hawthorn House… a perfect opportunity to get those IDEAL indoor house couple/engagement photos! A photographers dream!

I’m a wedding photographer so  I’ve been to my fair share of weddings. So if you have any questions or maybe you’re looking for a photographer then I’d love to chat!

If you’re looking to make your photographer really happy here are some things we look for.

  • Shade! Life saver on those harsh sunny days!
  • Good background, including a variation in locations without having to go to far.
  • Big open area for those nice bridal party shots!

 2. Prairie Homestead Weddings

Next, I want to emphasize my love for Prairie Homestead Weddings. If you’re from Manitoba, I’m sure you can appreciate the name of their venue. Like Hawthorn Estates, this venue also has the perfect balance between the rustic style and elegance. Prairie Homestead might beat all of my top venues in the romance department and I’ll tell you why. Inside the dome like indoor facility, there are lights strung along the ceiling and a gorgeous chandelier, setting the mood. Also, the beautiful trees on the property have string lights hanging from the branches, making it look so unbelievably romantic. (Would be such a great photo opportunity, just saying). I’m a sucker for lighting – I’m a photographer, what can I say – so when I see a venue spice up their space with lights, it gets me so excited! Get this, their reception shed can hold up to 225 people! If you and your fiancé are planning to get getting ready photos done (you should), the bride will be very happy with the space she’s provided with… my girlfriend would tell me it’s the best part about the venue.

 3. The Gables Wedding Barn

Farmhouse, but make it elegant. That’s the Gables Wedding Barn for you. A genius combination if you ask me. I couldn’t have designed a better looking venue, I give you my word. The modern, yet farm like white exterior of the barn is eye candy. The dream wedding photo location. The maximum guest number is a sweet spot at 200, not too many, not too restrictive. Perfect amount for the average wedding size! Something that makes this venue unique is that they have an outdoor option next to a wheat field which (trust me) looks absolutely stunning in photos! Besides the eye pleasing structural facility, they have a great list of preferred vendors to make your wedding planning even more easier for you! They also include a bunch of rentals in the venue booking fee (that’s a win). If you’re a fan of farmhouse like me, this is definitely, 100%, without a doubt, the spot for you and your fiancé!

My description doesn’t do them justice, take a look for yourself:

  4.Cielo’s Garden

This location lands near Steinbach and needless to say… its gorgeous! If you want your wedding to be surrounded by nature where every you look, this is your place. If this venue fits your colour pallet and style you’re golden.

Not only is their venue beautiful but their staff are next level. You’ll never feel so taken care of by anyone else!

  5. Clear Lake – Elkhorn and Danceland

Last but not least I’m hitting you with a beautiful outdoor venue. As a huge outdoors guy I absolutely love this venue. This venue is right by a golf course and looks over the water. With the right light this location is stunning. After your ceremony you have the option to go down to the waters edge to take stunning sunset photos. Definitely worth considering!

Goodluck!

Finding the venue that suits you the best is tricky but definitely worth the work! No matter what venue you pick remember that the most important thing about your wedding will always be the experience. Make sure you do what you can to make the planning and even the wedding day a positive experience. Be in the moment and capture those memories!

Melanie & Kyle

Wedding Couple Photography in Winnipeg Manitoba taken by Winnipeg Wedding Photographer

Winnipeg Wedding Photography

Melanie and Kyle are such a fun and cute couple. They absolutely killed their wedding day photos and made the best out of their COVID wedding. They actually planned their wedding only a day or two before their wedding day. I really believe you enjoy your wedding day when you take time to enjoy the moment and not stress that everything needs to be perfect.

TIPS FOR ENGAGED COUPLES –

It’s good to be involved in your planning but don’t become consumed by it. Enjoy the moments you get to share with your significant other. The more you stress about having everything PERFECT the less you’ll enjoy the day!

Intimate weddings are becoming more and more my favorite type of weddings. As much as I love a big fancy wedding, there’s something about being able to eat pizza with your family.  Here’s some photos from the wedding!

After the ceremony we took a drive to Bunn’s Creek Park. Honestly for a small park in the middle of the city it had amazing colours and landscape. Here we took the family photos as well as the wedding party photos. What makes these photos some of my favorite is the amount of kids that attended the wedding. It was a blast to be able to take photos with all the kids having fun in the park.

This wedding took place in fall and you can tell that the colour of the leaves is amazing! I personally really love how these photos came out! Also Melanie and Kyle are great models 😉
